Geologist Notes:
An igneous rock formed by the crystallization of molten magma once located 16 - 25 miles below the Earth's surface. Heated to a temperature between 1200 to1650 degrees Fahreheit, immense pressure forced the magma nearer to the surface where it slowly cooled and crystallized into solid stone. Later exposed by weathering of the layers above it.
