A true limestone formed this great lakes gem. Lake Michigan Limestone makes an excellent landscaping material for applications of retaining walls, steps, footpaths, and waterfeatures. Sizes range from handstack to ledge rock slabs and architectural building stones.
Color: Gray.
Geologists Notes: A light grey, fine-grained limestone, of the Mississippian Age, formed 325 to 345 million years ago is uniform in texture, composition and color. The stone is chiefly calcium carbonate having been precipitated from warm, shallow sea water by marine organisms. Round grains of clear quartz sand are common in some of the bedded layers of the Lake Michigan Limestone improving under-foot, the friction and wear resistance of this stone.
